Your Bio

I have been interested in aviation from a very young age. I have lived in close proximity of Edinburgh International Airport my entire life and have always made time to visit.

Recently I have begun photographing military jets at my local base, RAF Leuchars, and for the past 3 years, out in the hills of the Scottish Borders (LFA20) and the Lake District (LFA13). The RAF and foreign air forces use many valleys and lakes for low level practice, and my making use of ‘choke’ points within these valleys, and by climbing to 450ft, and a bit of luck!, I should be in the prime spot to catch them at what they do best.

My equipment consists of a Canon 300D SLR, Canon 350D SLR, Canon 100-400L IS lens, Sigma 70-200 lens, multiple memory cards and the trusty Uniden 3300XLT air band scanner. I find the 100-400 perfect for almost every occasion, however it can struggle when the light is low, all too common in the valleys!

The hobby isn’t the easiest, one day 14 movements can come past, and other days nothing. Considering that most of the low flying takes part far from populated areas, getting to such places and then the climb can be a bit tedious, however the moment you see a fast jet come around the valley and head straight for you makes every minute and early mornings worth while.
